1. I think that online chatting can be very dangerous to children because they can be discussing personal information making it public for anyone to see. I did not know that NYS passed an Education Law that allows schools to promote safe and proper use on the internet. This is very beneficial because students need to understand how the internet is a public source and once you have put something there it will always be there. Students need to be taught how to properly use the internet, as they need to be taught how to complete a math problem. If we as teachers or parents do not explain to them how to do it or possible consequences, they will not understand the outcomes or possibilities.

1. I agree with Ericia. Children chatting online is a very dangerous thing. They do not possess the necessary skills that would help them protect their privacy online. The internet has lots of predatorial people that seek out children in order to exploit them. Sites such as facebook and myspace can not check every single profile to make sure children are not able to access these social networking sites. Although both of these sites have an age limit, many children lie about their birthdate in order to access these sites.
ReplyDeleteIt is so important that we as teachers educate our young students that they should be chatting to people they do not know online. Their safety is the most important thing we can assure, and by allowing them to chat online is not conducive to that kind of thinking.
I feel like online chatting has the potential to be very dangerous for children. Children are sometimes naive and impressionable and do not fully understand that there are individuals out there who may have intentions that are hazardous. Also I feel like children may not understand the importance of not disclosing certain information on the internet, which can put them in more danger. This is a complicated issue because the internet is a useful tool in today's classrooms as well. It is crucial for us as educators to educate our students on using the proper etiquette for the internet. And so they can understand what they should be staying away from. The dangers that are associated with online chatting should be clearly communicated.
